Lisa Shrewsbury, MFT

All of us experience times in our lives when we’re really struggling, hurting, or feeling stuck.  No matter how hard we try, we can’t seem to bridge the gap between where we desperately want to be…and where we are.  Or maybe we’re going through a significant transition and just need some extra support.

Oftentimes events or wounds from our past form mental imprints that get in the way of us living rich, fulfilling lives.  Yet research shows that our brains can actually be renewed and physically transformed!  It is possible to change old beliefs and ways of interacting into ways that bring new freedom, joy, and ability to love and be loved.

My goal is to provide a safe, supportive place to explore the issues important to you and help you experience the growth and healing you desire.  One of my great joys is equipping people and witnessing the transformation as they grow in their experience of grace and truth as unique individuals of great worth.

With over 30 years of experience as a pastor’s wife, church staff member, educator, mother and Christ follower, I specialize in working with Christians who want to apply their faith in practical, life-changing ways.  Because all people are unique, I utilize a variety of research-based and biblically supported treatment approaches to best fit each client’s needs.

My academic training includes an M.A. from Western Seminary in Marriage and Family Therapy and a B.S. in Dietetics/Nutrition from the University of CA, Davis.  Professional training includes EMDR and Internal Family Systems, both proven modalities for trauma and addictions.  I am also a certified facilitator for Prepare-Enrich pre-marital and marital assessment.  In addition to my work as a therapist, I serve as an adjunct faculty member for the Western Seminary Counseling program and offer trainings and workshops to local churches.

Areas of Focus include:

  • Childhood Abuse & Trauma
  • Parent/Child relationships (including adult children)
  • Grief, Loss & Betrayal
  • Pre-marital Counseling (Prepare-Enrich)
  • Emotionally Healthy Spirituality
  • Codependency & Boundaries
  • Emotional Eating & Food Addiction

In my spare time, I love gardening, learning about brain health and healing, new cultural experiences, and making memories with friends and family (including my 3 adorable grandsons!)
